R is for reading

Yay! I did managed to do a page last night after the boys have asleep. It was a cool night last night after the rain, made it super comfortable to be in the scrap room without having the fan on.
I’ve struggled to use pattern papers and cardstock, to split the pages into 2 and 1. I ended up taken out some pattern paper that I wanted to use, start comparing them by laying my photos on them. I started with one page layout in mind, having thoughts of using certain things in my layout, then I changed my mind, then I changed back again and stick to the initial plan.

Things that I wanted to include on the page are a coaster from Nanny’s kitchen (SEI), the small photo of books and four pictures of my boys. This is a page about their love in reading. These are photos from two different time, one is on board to Hong Kong and the others were in a bookshop in Central Hong Kong.
I haven’t own any circle punch yet, so I’ve to cut the circles and also cut out the circle shape from the photos to make the effect shown on the layout, fun fun fun!

I’ve used: SEI From Granny’s kitchen coaster, Blackbird 12×12 Cardstock Pack (bazzill), photo turns from Basic Grey Matchbook kit, ribbon from Paperwishes March kit.

Thanks for looking.

Evidence

I’ve found several photos showing my boys reading. Yup! They loves to read, they love it especially if Mommy is reading to them. They’ll request more after one book before bed. They go into a book shop and demanded to buy books, once they were there, they’ll drag my hand over to those shelves that displaying their favourite books, in most cases, “Thomas & Friends”. So I’m going to do scrapbook pages about this and I wanted to include a pictures of books somewhere in the page. So I snap a few last night then decided to just use one and I had it developed to small size (3.5″ x 2.5″). They call it 2up of 3R over here. It turns out very cute indeed.

Let’s see how I can do that page tonight. A page about reading and maybe another page about their love for Thomas & Friends.

Oh.. another one is for their love of Donut, especially little Mer.

Yesterday after getting him from babysitter, the first thing he said was:

Mommy.. the rain has stop
Me: Ya…? (suspecting something is in his mind)
Mer: Go to City Mall, buy donut (with a big grin)

Infact it was even raining, just because my reason last time for not going is it was raining. So he does love donut huh!?
So we did stoped by City Mall and he ate two without finishing them la.. he just make sure that he ate all the stuffing of blueberry in the middle.
I started to collect more evidence about donut right after the box is empty. How? By cutting out the label on the box! Yay!

So Close

“These were just some brief moment during a flight to Hong Kong, where the two of you were being so close. I wish to see more of this..”

It really was a very brief moment on board, after that was some quiet on-board magazine reading time, then argue and fighting time. LOL.

I mount 3 4×6″ photos on the side, mat the main photo (which doesn’t seems that prominent here) on red pattern paper and white cardstock, then adhere the ribbon below. Punched holes for my heart brads. Then used white cardstock to covered the hole of leaves of the felt before adhering it on top. Punch little holes for the mini round brads then stick the title on. Final touched was the stamping done on the photo itself.

I’m using Blackbird 12×12 Cardstock Pack (bazzill), Rust Fall 2.7 inch Felt Fusion and brads from Queen & Co., colourful mini round brads from HOTP, ribbon and thicker letter sticker from American Craft, “so” letter sticker from Basic Grey, Share Laughter Clear Design Stamp Sets from Hero Arts.

One final thought: Maybe I should have used B&W photos for those on the side.

Morning look

This morning I woke up early and what I did? Crop and arrange photos!
Yupe, that’s what I did manage to do in that half an hour. I found those photos that we took during a trip to the Lok Kawi zoo during Chinese New Year, crop them so that I can fit more photos into my 2 page LO, then even managed to arrange them in orders that I might be able to use later.
It was a rush, but hey, not bad a result either, and I’m not talking about finishing the page straight. I’ll have some time alone again tonight to really go through it again and finish the 2 page LO. I might just be using the PP from my March Personal Shopper kit, yay!!
So, this is how it looks like this morning on my desk:

All these photos taken during that day are actually over-expose. I guess either me or my hubby had accidentally press on the exposure button when we were using the camera. :o(

Bright and dull colour LO

Yay! I’m so glad that my Personal Shopper monthly kit for March is here! Didn’t expect it to arrive so soon!
That means more papers for me, more new ideas on how to do that pages and new embellishment from HOTP for me to try out, yay!! The theme is Citrus UEFE. I’m truely so happy.

Over the weekend, I managed to finished two LO. One happy and one not so happy. Thus one is in bright colours and the other one in a dull colour, or more settle colour tone.

The first one is an LO showing how my kids love KFC, yupe, KFC-Kentucky Fried Chicken. When my sis saw the LO, she said: “Wah, you are doing commercial for KFC ah?” heheh.. well.. I just thought I have to include the word “KFC” in title and I’ve used “KFC moment” as the title and I just had to copied the fonts.

I used red felt beneath the wording ‘cos I just can’t find the suitable red colour paper for it. Adhere the “KFC” wording then secure the felt with Making Memories mini copper brads in silver.

I’ve used 2 different PP from American Craft, I knew I just had to use them ‘cos they to be are the happy colours, the bright colours that I wanted.

I’ve used the die-cut and tag from HOTP from its monthly kit and use the 3D zot to pop them up.

To pull the colour out from the boy’s shirts, I’ve used HOTP’s PP as the mating papers for the two main photos.

The film strip overlay is also from it’s monthly kit(February), and the brads buddy of mug from last year kit. The heart shape brad is from Queen & Co. Then finally doodle along the bottom left corner just to balance out the LO. Oh ya.. the card stock is Bazzill Basic.

After I’ve got this LO done, I got a not so obedient respond from Cal for not picking up all his toys that he left in the scraproom, and it sure wasn’t a suitable place for him to play there cos the floor is not carpeted, another thing is there got so many things inside that room that he can’t play with. So after that incident I thought I got to do this LO about the characters of the two boys and what I hope from them.
I’ve used things from Personal Shopper February kit again. The Cardstock is from My Mind’s eye – son, ribbon also from MME – bohemian.
The pattern PP with the “one of a kind” phrase is from boy collection (not sure which company now.)
Brads is from HOTP.

Journal: “You two get on my nerves almost everyday. You two get on each other nerve everyday, every hour, and sometimes even every minute. I don’t understand it, and I surely hope these are good sings saying that you have a strong bond. ‘cos after that you two are good friends again, you are sweet again. Sometimes I feel so frustrated for having you two around. but other times I feel blessed to have you two. There are times that I hope you’ll fight less, love more. Compare less, share more. Argue less, listen more. Shout less and be quiet more. Luv, mom”

New books and Snapshots LO

Yay! I’ve just got my books by Ali Edwards and “We dare you” ordered through Amazon.com. Which is a day earlier per estimation from Amazon. I’m so happy and just can’t wait to read them page by page.
I know some of you might have read these two books several times already. Well, I AM really living in a far away land of the U.S, you know?
A few flip of the books and buoy, I love the those LO in the two books. It is now even better for myself is that I don’t need to rely on the Internet to view other’s LO, and I’ve got these two that will show me just enough pages to be inspired.

This round, I wanted to share about the LO that I just did last night on my 2nd DS. It is in mosaic styles combined with pattern patter. I just had too many of those not so perfect photos that I don’t want to just keep it away in the old slip in album. But they are too many to be included in a page which doesn’t leave me any space to journal or simply be more creative. So I’ve spread them out into 2 pages and interval with PP and tags.

I must say the pages doesn’t seems to be well coordinated both for the color and pattern, anyway, I’ve had fun doing it 😀
In face, my parents were wondering if I’ll be working today ‘cos I stay up late to finished these two LO. (Hehe.. sorry mom and dad for getting you all worried. )

I wanted to show how I used the swirl palette to make the pattern on the 1st page on the bottom right. Just a way to record down the process. Many scrapbookers would know how to do these simple steps:

1. Position the swirl template to where you want it to be.

2. Then use a hard brush dotted with ink
and simply start dotting it over the pattern,
make sure your hands are sturdy and don’t move the template.

3. Carefully remove the template.
In my case, I simple remove it cos I didn’t use a lot of ink on it.

4. Finally then only put the brad on,
to make up the “o” of “snapshots”.

I’ve actually used many different types of brads on this LO. I just love those little footprints, dragon fly, stars, heart shape and mini round brads.

PP and ribbons: American craft, HOTP; Cardstock: SEI; Brads: HOTP, MM; Letter stickers and tags: Basic Grey.

Blue tone LO

Yay! After I’ve got my journal printed and adhere to one of my wedding pages. I went searching for photos to scrap and found two that I thought I can do last night. After letting my creative self just flow with the feel of the photos and whatever PP that I have. I managed to finished one LO for my 2nd DS’s haven’t yet prepared album (‘cos I don’t have any new album yet, so it will go into one of my big album with every other LO.)

I dig out all my HOTP’s (PaperWishes) PP in “Denim” and “Bright Tints Blue Gingham”. Ribbons and baby brads in blue also bought from HOTP.

I’ve used one of the scallop edge paper that I bought from Scrap-n-crop, thought to myself, if I don’t use it, I’ll never know when to use it and it might just sits in my paper box forever. Just a way to tell myself not to be stingy in using scrapping papers.

So, here, a LO in blue tone with hand journal.

Oh ya.. I’ve finally came to use the velum quote that I’ve bought from SoCalScrap. It says: Every good and perfect gift comes from above – John 1:17).

To make the letter E more coordinated with the page, I’ve used blue gel pen to colour the back of the E and smudge it out. Then secure it with glue and brads saying “It’s a boy”, plus those mini blue star brads.

To save some PP which probably I can use later for mating, I’ve actually cut a square hole on those part that is hidden by the scallop paper.

Vertical ribbons are the final touch which is secure using star brads and adhere behind the PP. The top photo is actually not mated on to the dark blue PP. I’ve actually made a border with the dark blue PP leaving some space to show off the white area.

When I look at these photos, they made me realise just how time flies. He was just a little baby then and now, he is running and trying to talk like an adult. I miss those time when he is still little, when he is just learning to turn, to walk, to talk and so cuddly.

1st page of “Our Wedding” album

I finally did the first page of my wedding album after doing all the rest of the pages inside (still .. some are lacking in journalling that I’m planning to print instead of hand journal.)

Thanks for Peridot&Sapphire who gave me an idea to use our gift wedding photos. I have actually 2 different wedding photos as gift cards and I’m just being greedy that I wanted to use both.

I’ve got the idea in displaying two different photos from a page LO done by Mellette Berezoski‘s “Remember” (Scrapbooks.etc, August/Sept ’07, pg. 26)

The two gift card photos are actually in different background and mood. Thus I use PP that best represented them from my stash of papers. Other than that, I’ve used Prima B&W flowers with mini brads from Hot Off the Press. The swirl doodles are traced by using HOTP’s swirl palette. The alphabets are from Basic Grey. The rest are hand journal which I’ve copied the Mother Teresa quote from Mellette’s LO. – Love is the golden thread that ties our hearts and souls together.

Instructions:

  1. Cut 2 different PP into 6″x12″ and joined them with a 1″x12″ yellow cardstock.
  2. Mate photos into white and black cardstock respectively. Adhere as shown in LO.
  3. Arrange and adhere title then trace the swirl using black pen and white gel pen as shown.
  4. Hand journal on white cardstock then mate them into apple green and brown PP/cardstock. Adhere on LO.
  5. Punch small hole to secure brads with double layer of flowers.

Simple!
Silly me.. you might have known by just one look at the LO..
LOL..
oh.. by the way.. I’m sure I’m not that pretty in real person. Well.. these photos were taken in the bridal studio, sure they’ll smooth out any wrinkles and make you look super pretty like cover girl.

p/s: for my own privacy sake, I’ve blurred out me and hubby’s name *big grin showing teeth*

Living in the rural area

I’m living in the rural area, way out of town. Can’t tell exactly where, but it is surrounded with greens, lots of trees. So these few weeks of rain actually give us the kind of weather that you’d normally get in Ranau or Kundasang or even in our National Park during sunny days. At night we would need to have our blanket ready and there is no need of fan, we’ve got our natural air-con on, just as long as we have our windows open.

So my kids have soundless sleep, well.. not exactly, Mer still wakes up middle of the night for milk. But at least he is not complaining that he is hot. As for myself, I enjoy the cool night.
Living in the urban area also give my kids the chances to enjoy the nature more than those in the urban area like my nephew in Hong Kong. Cal is not afraid of bugs, he even let it walks on his palm till his shoulder! They both get to play with the minimal toys that one can get from the toy shop, such as this below, where Mer is playing will the real tools, or tin, or can that he can find in the house. Cal even help out sometimes when my parents are smashing the soft drinks’ can for recycle or rather selling them for some pocket money.

Playful Mervin
This is a scraplift from Christy Tomlinson’s “Anna”, shown in Scrapbooksetc, pg. 61 of January ’08 issue.
For this LO, I’ve used American Craft vinyl alphabet stickers, some ribbons and PP, some other PP, brad, button and transparent tag from HOTP and hand journalling following the Jasmine handwriting.
I still love the vinyl letter stickers, they are just so easy to use. But I’ve read in scrapbook.about that ” … contain vinyl which can release harmful gases that will deteriorate your photographs and cause fading”.

Wedding album

Did I mentioned that I’m working on my wedding album? It was 6 years ago that I got married and I’ve actually patched all my photos into the magnetic album. So it is in the plan that I should get them all out and do it properly with archival products.
While I was working on it, I get to realise things that I’ve never noticed before. One of it was the look of my dad’s eyes when he walked me down the aisle, they look happy at first but till the point where he had to hand me over to my hubby that they start to change to sad eyes.. maybe more to worried eyes.. so I guess that could be the hardest thing that my dad need to do at that time, and now I’ve journal them into the LO.
There are other things that I noticed as well, one obvious one is that I’ve been smiling all through the ceremony for reason that I can’t remember now. Maybe just because it was my big day, and I’m really getting married.
There are so many photos taken during the wedding ceremony starting from my make-up being done at home till the simple reception done in church, and I haven’t even started to do the part where we had our wedding reception. It seems that we were the first couple who did our emceeing ourselves! We even have an entry that we sang a duet! It was a fun night actually and we had enjoyed it, not sure about the guest though.

Here is one of the simple LO that I’ve done by using My Mind’s eye paper and prima flowers layered in green and white, then secured by brads from making memories and zot instead of punching holes, so that I can use the reverse side of the paper. I doodle the swirl on the right side of the page by using the swirl template from Hot off the press. and the Chinese words embellishment is actually a cut out from magazine which I’m suppose to photocopy but instead of doing that, what I did was just to ink it and adhere it on acid free paper.
These were during the wedding ceremony where we had our prais and worship before the sermon. I’m glad that these photos show that we are really looking and feeling the same as a couple.

Yupe! I’m taller than my hubby ..*big grin*
